Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

 Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) describes the needs of a child who has a difficulty or   disability which makes learning more challenging for them than for other children their age. A child with SEND   needs more personalised provision that is different from, or additional to, what is normally available to pupils   of the same age.

Here at Willowbrook School, we aim to offer the best possible education for all children giving them a life-long love of learning, Through providing    a caring, nurturing and vibrant learning environment in which our children can thrive, we will ensure that all pupils with SEND reach their potential    and are fully included in the School Community.

No pupil will be refused admission on the basis of his or her special educational need.

In accordance with the Equality Act 2010, we will not discriminate against disabled children in respect of their admission for reasons relating to their disability. We will always do our upmost to provide effective educational provision to all pupils.

Professional dialogue between teachers and our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCo) Miss Chloe Bennett, means that children's needs can be identified at an early stage.

We follow an Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle to continuously monitor provision.

Working in partnership with other professionals, we continuously ensure that children are supported to make the best possible progress and that any barriers to learning are successfully addressed.

We are proud to serve a diverse community, and a key part of that commitment is ensuring our school is as inclusive as possible. Willowbrook has a proportion of pupils with SEND that is significantly higher than average for a school of our size. As a result, much of our practice is designed to support cohorts with a wide range of needs—this is embedded in our everyday approach.

To help everyone understand how this works, and to clarify when it may be appropriate to raise concerns, we’ve included a helpful infographic below.
